Customer Reviews

****** - Verified Buyer

Always leery of non XEROX inks, this ink worked fine in the Phaser. Not 100% certain of yield comparison, but the color is fine and I had no clogs or setbacks with the printer. My printer is in a multi-user school environment - we are not expecting perfection since so many users print through this machine, and control of paper type, and laptops that sometimes lose connections on the network, and occasionally foul the queue. The ink is loaded only by myself and one other teacher to make sure the load is clean and done correctly. My comparison is with LD products for non-brand inks.Yes, I will buy this ink again. While the seller was fine, no problems with shipping or receiving, the ink itself is horrible. It works fine at first but after a while this ink does not work well in the Phaser 8560. It causes discolorization. I haven't been able to print the correct color for months. I certainly hope I didn't ruin my $2000 printer but I probably did. I'll be purging all of the ink I currently have in the printer and hopefully once I add the xerox ink, it will start showing true colors. This solid ink cube is not the same shape as the genuine Xerox 8560 solid ink cube and the Xerox 8560 will not recognize that it is installed and will continue to display an "out of ink" error message. Adding a 2nd one doesn't change the outcome. They might be for a different Xerox printer but they will not work in the Xerox 8560.Item works well for our needs. We have 2 Phaser 8560's in the office and we were using the Media Science brand ink for both. Never had a problem. Good printer, good ink and most people were envious of print items because the images looked so good. Later, was told that Media Science brand is not marketed under Katun name but the product was the same - its not.Not wanting to mix the Media Science and the Katun ink sticks, we decided that we would use up the Media Science in one machine and switch the other one over to the Katun. As soon as we did we have had nothing but problems with the machine and its print quality is horrible. The colors are dull and sometimes it looks like one of the colors is missing in the mix entirely.I contacted Katun for help. They automated phone system gives you a number for a guy who I think works out of his house. All he could say is that he has never come across this before and that I sould change the maintenance kit. Which by the way will need to be changed more frequently. The 8560 with the Media Science has heaver usage and we use about 3 of the extended use maintenance kits a year. The printer with the katun ink, well we have gone through 4 since June. Why I say there is a quality control problems with the product is because it is like we know when we hit a bad stick; the machine jams with every other printing and the brand new maintenance kit will look like its 3 months old just in the time it takes us to burn through that bad brick. With the time and money I have wasted on Katun ink, I should have just used the overpriced Xerox ink.If anyone finds a good alternative please reply to this and let me know - Mahalo! The only time I have had a problem with this ink is when I put it in incorrectly (which only happened with yellow). The number has to go down - when it does, the printer recognizes it every time. (Note - it's a major pain getting the ink back out once you've put it in wrong!)That would be the only downside to this ink. The Xerox ink can only go in one way, so it would be very unlikely to get it in wrong.I do agree that the color isn't quite as vibrant as one probably gets with Xerox, but for my needs it works fine (presentations, proposals, return address labels, etc).Price is nice, but the 8560 didn't want to recognize that there were ink sticks there as I transitioned from Xerox to Media Science ink. Once I turned the printer off and back on, the printer recognized teh presence of the new sticks and has worked fine for several refills. I can't see a difference in quality or color at this point. I'm hooked.
